Losing a loved one, whether it is sudden or expected, can be shocking and upsetting. It is not unusual for people to not know what to do when someone close to them passes away, but that is where we come in. One of the first things you should do is contact West & Sons Funerals and we will gently guide you through each stage of the process. Our caring and sensitive services start from the moment we first speak. Initially, we will need to know where your loved one has passed away as this will determine the next step.
Arranging a Funeral
The thought of arranging a funeral, whether you have done it before or not, can feel extremely overwhelming when you are still coming to terms with your loss. Staff at West & Sons Funerals are very sensitive, and we understand that many people feel devastated and vulnerable straight after losing someone.
Death at Home
If your loved one passes away at home, and it was expected, you need to call your GP who will come out to certify the death.
If the death occurs outside of the normal surgery hours, then contact the emergency number and an out-of-hours doctor will be notified.
If the death is unexpected then you must contact the police as well as your GP.
There could be a delay in receiving the medical certificate as a coroner may need to be consulted.
Death in a Nursing Home
If your loved one passes away in a nursing or care home, the staff will notify you. In most cases, they will also notify the GP who will need to complete a death certificate.
Get in touch with us so we can make the necessary arrangements to collect your loved ones and take them to our funeral home.
