Arranging a Funeral

Arranging a Funeral

The thought of arranging a funeral, whether you have done it before or not, can feel extremely overwhelming when you are still coming to terms with your loss. Staff at West & Sons Funerals are very sensitive, and we understand that many people feel devastated and vulnerable straight after losing someone. There are many details to consider when planning a funeral, and if prior instructions have not been left, then it is up to you and your family to make decisions about the service. We are here to guide you through the process to ensure that everything is taken care of but before we meet to discuss your options, here are a few things you might wish to consider ahead of time.

Type of service We can arrange all types of funerals including burials, cremations, green, religious, and non-religious ceremonies.
Venue and date If you do not have anything in mind for a venue then we can provide you with a list of places where we regularly hold services.
Religion Choosing whether to include religion in your service is a very personal choice but we are proud to have gained experience in providing services for Sikh, Christian, Catholic, Jewish, and Hindu communities.
Coffin We can talk you through the many different options there are and ensure you find something you like, that is worthy of your loved one and will also suit your budget.
Music and readings Selecting music and readings give you the opportunity to really personalise the service, ensuring the personality of your loved one is reflected in whatever you choose.
Order of service We can help you determine the order of things and how to present it in a document that some people may wish to keep afterward. We can organise the design and printing of your order of service.
Flowers or donations In lieu of flowers, some people now choose to request donations are made to a specific charity to remember their loved one.
Funeral transport The way your loved one is transported during their final journey can add a personal touch to proceedings if done with some creativity, but we can assist you on what your options are.
Obituary Letting people know that your loved one has passed on and notifying them of the funeral arrangements is an important part of the process and we can assist you with the drafting of the announcement.
The wake Traditionally guests attend the wake after the funeral service and the options are endless for size and venue. If you do not already have an idea then we can help you by providing a list of suppliers we have worked with in the past who would be happy to assist with hosting and catering.
