Saying goodbye to a loved one is tough at the best of times but in the middle of the COVID-19 outbreak it is arguably tougher than ever before. With tight restrictions in place to limit the potential spread of coronavirus it has become increasingly difficult to pay your respects in person at a funeral service.
With this in mind, we are proud to have signed up as a supporter of the new ‘We are all in this together’ campaign developed by the National Association of Funeral Directors (NAFD). The campaign is aimed at encouraging streets, neighbourhoods and communities to come together in a show of respect for anyone saying a final farewell to a loved one during these particularly challenging times.
We are calling on the public to pay their respects to bereaved families if a hearse passes by in the street. Simply taking a moment to pause, bow your head and show your support can have a huge impact on mourners, a simple action can make an enormous difference.
At a time when bereaved families are unable to be surrounded by the love and support of all family and friends during those precious final moments ahead of a funeral, ask yourself one question; could you be there for them instead?
Whether it’s from the comfort of your front garden or halfway through your daily exercise, please consider showing a symbol of your support, understanding and respect to help fellow members of your community in this most difficult of times. Let them know you’re thinking of them and you’re there for them. It will make a difference.
